Strengthening water governance in Sri Lanka
FAO launched the "Knowing water better toward fairer and more sustainable access to natural resources for greater food security (KnoWat)" project in Colombo, Sri Lanka on 7 November 2019.
A one-day workshop was organized in collaboration with the Department of Irrigation. Forty nine representatives from government intergovernmental and non-governmental organisations, including FAO, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of National Policies and Economic Affairs, Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Water Supply and Drainage Board, University of Peradniya, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), International Water Management Institute (IWMI) and World Bank (WB) attended the workshop.
During this workshop, the main challenges and opportunities in water resources management were discussed. In addition, the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) was established and held its first meeting where the project outcomes and work plan were reviewed.
