SVC4SIDS holds its second Project Steering Committee (PSC) alongside CONXEMAR congress and exhibition

Representatives of SVC4SIDS countries and the Donor gathered in Vigo from 2 to 4 October to review the project progress and plans and provide guidance for facilitating cooperation at decision making and technical levels.

Cabo Verde and Kiribati were respectively represented by Mr Carlos Monteiro, Director, National Directorate of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Ministry of the Sea. And Ms Tooreka Temari, Director of Coastal Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resource Development. Both Directors commended FAO for the work done so far and expressed their full support and engagement to see the upgrading strategies through. From his side, Mr Jyungrae Cho, Attaché Consul, Consulate of the Republic of Korea in Las Palmas, Spainconveyed the Donor’s appreciation to FAO and recognition of the importance of the SVC4SIDS Project to build on the sustainability momentum.

On the sidelines of the PSC, members attended the 11th International Conxemar Congress: Rethinking the seafood value chain as well as the Conxemar Exhibition. Vigo also offers a unique venue as it hosts one of the most important ports in the world both in terms of fishing activities and other maritime related activities. Learning from organizational, infrastructure, and technology advances and experiences, from catch to landing and marketing, is of high relevance to SVC4SIDS countries where upgrading strategies are being implemented.
