Project “Fisheries Co-management Capacity Development for Blue Communities: Sustainable Fisheries and Diverse Livelihoods”

The five-year FAO project “Fisheries Co-management Capacity Development for Blue Communities: Sustainable Fisheries and Diverse Livelihoods” aims at improving the capacity of governments and fishing communities in fisheries co-management. It will achieve this objective on two tiers. One is to develop a global policy framework and toolbox for fisheries co-management. The other is to adapt the knowledge produced from the global framework into selected recipient countries. A national contextualized fisheries co-management system is a key output of this project. The project is funded by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries of the Republic of Korea. 

The one-day meeting is intended to bring together all stakeholders representing various interests around fisheries co-management in the Republic of Mozambique to: 

• Ensure a common understanding of the Project’s expected impact, outcome, outputs and activities
• Present and discuss the Project’s proposed work plan
• Share experience and lessons learned from national, regional and local activities being undertaken to address fisheries co-management and livelihoods
• Identify how the Project can build synergies with ongoing initiatives
• Agree on the implementation arrangements
• Brainstorm on the scope and purpose of site selection criteria
