National inception workshop of the SVC4SIDS project in Cabo Verde

30/11/2022

6-7 December 2022
Mindelo, Cabo Verde

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in collaboration with the Ministry of the Sea of the Republic of Cabo Verde, will hold an inception workshop at which the project marks its official launch at the national level. The workshop will be held in Mindelo, Cabo Verde, on 6 and 7 December 2022, with the government, public and private sectors, associations, NGOs, and international partners invited.

The project promotes the sustainable development of tuna and black mackerel value chains and highlights its commitment to safeguarding the health and resilience of coastal fisheries and fisheries-dependent communities. This approach ensures local food security and healthy nutrition while improving livelihoods.

The two-day workshop aims to establish a common understanding of the project objectives, activities, and outputs and seek consensus on the approach to upgrading strategies. The discussions and interactions during the workshop will facilitate the sharing of information and experience between stakeholders on the selected value chains. This will also further  develop specific improvement strategies and streamline synergies and collaborations with ongoing initiatives. Great attention will be given to the crucial role of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and the need to foster their economic performance for more sustainable development.

Simultaneous interpretation will be provided in French and Portuguese.
