Stakeholders and experts convene to progress in effective biosecurity and digital technology in Sri Lanka

07/09/2023

The Korea-funded Smart Aquaculture Biosecurity (SAB) project, aimed at assisting countries and relevant stakeholders in taking preventive actions against any disastrous situations in the shrimp value chain sector, is organizing a validation workshop in Colombo, Sri Lanka, following its inception workshop in November 2022.

Approximately 40 participants will convene for this meeting. The event will serve as an opportunity to review, discuss, and validate the outcomes of two key components:

  • Feasibility Study on the challenges and opportunities for smart and sustainable aquaculture through effective biosecurity and digital technology in Sri Lanka;
  • In-depth contextualized action plan for the integration of smart/digital technologies to reduce biosecurity risks and enhance sustainable production practices.

The workshop will stress the importance of collaborative efforts in achieving smart and sustainable aquaculture practices in Sri Lanka, while ensuring the security and resilience of the shrimp value chain sector.

In light of the confirmed feasibility study and action plan outcomes from the Validation Workshop on 14 September, 20 participants of the Digital Technology Technical Group will proceed to deliberate on the forthcoming stages pertaining to the incorporation of digital technology into shrimp aquaculture on 15 September.

The primary objective of this meeting is to facilitate technical discussions pertaining to the development of a big data management system as the second stage of digital establishment. This includes identifying technical methodologies for data standardization, digitalization, encryption, and management programs.
