This webinar was the seventh of the Gender-Sensitive Social Protection Series, which was organized by IPC-IG, GIZ and FAO. Please join the Gender-Sensitive Social Protection online community if you are interested in following the most recent discussions on the topic.
Throughout their lives, rural women face multiple risks to their livelihoods and overall wellbeing, yet their access to affordable insurance schemes remains inadequate. This webinar, organised by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), will explore what is being done to increase financial protection for the poorest rural women, and how to design insurance schemes that address their gender-specific needs and priorities for support in times of crisis.
Drawing on real life case studies from Asia and sub-Saharan Africa the webinar will address the following questions:
-
What are current examples of bringing a women-oriented focus to insurance schemes across agriculture, health and social security sectors?
-
How can gender-sensitive insurance schemes be best integrated into national social protection systems and/or programmes?
-
What are the key opportunities, challenges and potential entry points for different insurance stakeholders to increase women’s access to affordable insurance through social protection?
