The African Water Resource Database is a set of spatial data and data management and analytical tool-sets integrated within a single geographic information system (GIS) interface. It aims at facilitating responsible inland aquatic resource management. The publication is presented in two parts to inform readers of various levels of familiarity with the benefits of spatial analyses for aquatic resources management. Part 1 (Technical manual) describes the databse and targets administrators and managers in assisting with their decision-making, the presented case studies are addressed to professionals in technical fields and illustrate how the tools can be used to address key inland aquatic resource management issues. Part 2 is a “how to” supplement and includes a technical manual for spatial analysts and a workbook for university students and teachers.

The Climate Adaptation Country Profiles are operational tools for adaptation, disaster risk management, and development practitioners and policy makers to access reference information on adaptation to climate change for planning and operations. The series of 91 climate risk and adaptation country profiles offers a common platform to guide access, synthesis and analysis of relevant country data and information for Disaster Risk Reduction, Vulnerability and Adaptation to Climate Change. The country profiles include geospatial analysis, vulnerability mapping, risk analysis, and stakeholder engagement with global and country level open source data. This information helps in the stocktaking exercise when identifying available information, in assessing climate vulnerabilities and identifying adaptation options when developing a national adaptation plan. The data stems from the World Bank, the Global Facility for Disaster Recovery and Reconstruction (GFDRR) and the Climate Investment Funds’ (CIF’s) Strategic Program Fund.

National Adaptation Programmes of Action (NAPA) contain a list of ranked priority adaptation activities and projects and short profiles of each activity or project, designed to facilitate the development of proposals for implementation. This database provides a list of country priority project profiles grouped by country and according to main sectors for which an activity falls. It also indicates the project cost and provides a downloadable file when available. These priority adaptation adaptation activities and information included in the NAPAs feed in the development of the National Adaptation Plans (NAP).

This guidelines applies to all economic sectors, and focuses in planning and budgteting. It is an analysis tool designed to help countries align their national adaptation plan (NAP) processes with their overall national development goals. NAP Align highlights the importance of taking both the planning procedures and the budgeting framework of the country into consideration especially in the earliest stages of the NAP process. The analysis comprises a set of questions which cover the following topics: development planning, donor coordination structures, financial and budget planning, financing climate change adaptation, medium term expenditure frameworks, and the budget cycle. The publication supplements the NAP technical guidelines developed by the Least Developed Countries Expert Group. It is targeted at various practitioners involved in the NAP process, including NAP multisectoral coordination committees, task forces and working groups.
