Report of the Workshop on Climate Change Implications for Fisheries of the Benguela Current Region. It contains information on the regional biophysical features and decadal trends in the Benguela Current Large Marine Ecosystem (BCLME); national contexts of climate variability and change and fisheries; and a vulnerability assessment of the region's fisheries. It highlights the main issues brought out during the discussions, such as: aspects of developing a methodology for vulnerability assessment; definition of vulnerability in a fisheries context; potential climate change impacts on, and vulnerability levels of, the different fisheries in the region; and potential short- and medium-term adaptation actions.

This paper tackles the issue of the challenge for decision-making facing uncertainty in climate change and the difficulty to build robust policies based on multiple scenarios and tools. It presents a participatory scenario development process conducted for Cambodia, Viet Nam, and Laos, which focuses on the exploration of a large scenario possibility space. It provides interesting insight of possible and innovative processes to lead when formulating a national adaptation plan.

This publication illustrates IFAD’s experience in closing the gender gap and mobilizing the ‘gender advantage’ in climate change adaptation through ten case studies from across the world. The case studies show that gender-sensitive adaptation results in better livelihood options and incomes, improved yields, more food security and reduced workloads for women and their families. They also show that women and men are better able to make informed decisions about their lives, thus balancing their human development priorities when giving attention to sustainable natural resource management.

This report was prepared for informing IFAD's Country Strategic Opportunities Program (COSOP) 2012-2017 for Viet Nam. It is based on the outputs of a brainstorming workshop  held in May 2011 in Hanoi bringing together key national research institutes working on climate change (CC) and environment related issues, ministries of agriculture and environment and bilateral and multilateral donors. This workshop provided insight into the current status of climate change research and interventions related to the agriculture and rural development sector and highlighted gaps in understanding of specific climate change issues. A follow up analysis was undertaken of 3 target provinces (Tra Vinh, Ha Tinh and Ha Giang) to understand on-the-ground climate change impacts in the representative agro-ecological zones.

This module demonstrates how proven policies and practices in disaster risk reduction (DRR) can contribute to the objectives of climate-smart agriculture (CSA). It presents some examples of practical methods, tools and technologies that have been applied successfully to reduce disaster risk in the agriculture sector, outlines the broad landscape of national institutional mechanisms, policy frameworks and strategies established in many countries for DRR, and looks at how these can create a supportive enabling environment for CSA.
