Agreement to support the Irrigation management information system for Ethiopia (IMISET)

Last November, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) signed an agreement with the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) of Ethiopia to support the Irrigation management information system (IMISET) in the country.

IMISET is a web-based information system run by the Ministry of Agriculture of Ethiopia that aims to support the monitoring of the performance and status of irrigated agriculture as well as decision-making and timely planning. It retrieves data on precipitation, reference and actual evapotranspiration and transpiration from WaPOR for estimating water use and irrigation water requirement.

Last January 11, 2024, the IMISET improvement launching workshop has been heldat the Capital Hotel in Addis Ababa. Participants from the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Irrigation and Lowlands, Ministry of Water and Energy, Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research, Addis Ababa Institute of Technology, Ethiopian Construction Design and Supervision Works Corporation, Lersha, Netherlands Embassy, IWMI and FAO have attended the workshop.

WaPOR implementing partner, the IHE Delft Institute, attended virtually. H.E. Prof. Eyasu Elias, State Minister of Agriculture, Ms. Farayi Zimudzi, FAO Representative in Ethiopia, and Ms. Livia Peiser, FAO Officer and Technical coordinator for the WaPOR project, also participated to the workshop.
