WaPOR at the world water week: Open data to support SDG6, towards UN Water Conference 2023

WaPOR will be present at this year’s World Water Week in Stockholm which started on 23 August and will end on 1 September.

On the last day of the conference a talk show will be held during which 3 key actors of the project will discuss the database and the project in light of the 2023 UN Water Conference. 

This talk show will bring the experience of key actors at global and national level in the field of water, agriculture and international cooperation. They will discuss the role of open data in contribution to improved cooperation for water management, which is at the core of the UN Water Conference 2023 to accelerate progress towards SDG. FAO open data such as AQUASTAT and the WaPOR remote sensing database on water productivity in agriculture support countries in monitoring SDG 6.4

The speakers will be: 

  • Ms Kitty van der Heijden, Director General International Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of The Netherlands, 
  • Mr Lifeng Li, FAO Land and Water division Director,
  • Ms Roda Nuvunga Luis, Director of Water Research Institute of Mozambique.

The questions will focus on the role of open data on water and agriculture to support SDG 6 monitoring and acceleration towards targets. The discussion will include practical examples of available tools and resources, as well as challenges of country level implementation.
