On 4 May 2023, the WaPOR project reached another country with the signature of a letter of agreement in Morocco during the Salon de l’Agriculture International de Meknès (SIAM). The LoA will last until the second half of 2025, that is almost until the end of WaPOR Phase 2, and will ensure the development of water and agriculture geo-services in the basin of Oum Er Rbia using WaPOR data and methodologies.

The agreement was signed by Lifeng LI, FAO Land and Water Director, and Loubna El Mansouri, Director of Moroccan Centre de Ressources du Pilier II du Plan Maroc Vert (CRP2). Mohamed Sadiki, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development and Forestry and Jean Senahoun, FAO representative in Morocco, were also present during the signature of the agreement.

The agreement signature was organized together with the signature of the FAO Country Programming Framework for 2023-2027 between FAO and the Moroccan government. The CRP2 acts as the agriculture digital pole in the country and the FAO will support by providing local data and strengthening capacity of public and private actors for estimation of water productivity and agricultural advisory geo-services.
