Description:
The CFS Principles for Responsible Investment in Agriculture and Food Systems (CFS-RAI) recognize that all stakeholders have a role in promoting responsible investment in agriculture and food systems. Governments need to create enabling environments through appropriate policies, regulations, and safeguards that balance the interests of investors, smallholders, and local communities. Investors and agribusinesses are responsible for managing the risks associated with their investments and maximizing their positive social and environmental impacts, while complying with relevant laws and conducting due diligence. These stakeholders require support and guidance to effectively apply the CFS-RAI. Recognizing this need, several organizations have collaborated to develop practical tools to guide governments, investors, and agribusinesses in promoting and applying these principles.
Objectives:

The side event aims to raise awareness among stakeholders about the range of practical tools that have been developed and describe how they can be used to promote responsible investment, showcasing examples of their application. It will encourage dialogue among those developing and using these tools on how to improve coordination, while encouraging more actors to take up these tools. By increasing awareness and improving coordination, the event will help governments create better enabling environments and engage the investor community, ultimately contributing to more responsible agricultural investment that addresses hunger, malnutrition, and drives food system transformation.
