Strengthening Agro-climatic Monitoring and Information System (SAMIS)

Renovation of the Facilities of the Climate and Agro-Meteorology Division at the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology

15/08/2018

This Old French building established almost a century ago underwent renovation between April and July, 2018.  The building will be the base for the national laboratory for agro-meteorology. The purpose of the renovation was to avoid modifying or changing any component of the building and preserve the existing architectural structure and appearance. In addition, it strengthened the structure, changing all deteriorated parts and improving the quality of rendering and finishing works. Finally, the work insulated the building from the soil in order to reduce damage due to moisture in the walls

This building will be used as a laboratory room for agro-meteorological analysis, instrument calibration, and geospatial climate data access. Some technical staff from the Department of Climate and Agro-meteorology, which is a key partner of Component 1 of the SAMIS project, will be moved to this building.

Under the framework of the SAMIS project, this laboratory will be the base for maintenance and reparation of all the manual and automatic weather stations in Lao PDR

In addition, a climate database management system for the archiving, storing, processing and analysis of agro-climatic data will be established. Finally, routine models for agro-meteorology information products will allow for the production of seasonal, monthly and weekly forecasting bulletins.
