Internal DMH workshop for producing climate services for farmers

The SAMIS Project under the Division of Climate and Agro-Meteorology Division and the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology, held an internal workshop on data requirements and stardard operation processes on August the 31st, at the Dansavanh Hotel, chaired by Mrs Outhone Phetluangsy, Deputy Director of theDepartment of Meteorology and Hydrology.

 

The workshop was attended by the National Project Director, Project Coordinator, International-National Consultant and The Head/Vice Head/Technical staff from the Division of Climate and Agro-Meteorlogy, Aeronautical, Hydrology and the Weather Forecasting. Also in attendance were  representatives from the Plant Protection Center (PPC). In total there were 28 people who participated in the workshop.

The purpose of the workshop was to discuss the need for historical observation data for agro-met services, how to process the data for practical usage, the context on stardard operating procedures, capacity development at institutional levels, how to manage  historical data by DMH, and the proposed  data management and SOP initiation.

During the workshop, Mrs Outhone Phetluangsy expressed her thanks to the SAMIS Project in organizing the workshop.  She, on behalf of the DMH felt very happy that the technical knowledge of staff and the organization, will be improved through training of advanced courses and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). She also stated that the DMH is ready to support any data for the SAMIS project, in order to make not only the progress of the DMH advance but also our nation.

The workshop concluded that DMH will perform seasonal forecasting and all agrometeorological modelling,plus support all data required to the SAMIS project. In addition, the SAMIS project will also organize a SOP national level workshop soon.
