Strengthening Agro-climatic Monitoring and Information System (SAMIS)

Training on communicating climate services to farmers through village loudspeakers

31/08/2019

Between June and August authorities from 20 villages in Luang Namtha, Savannakhet, Saravan, Champasak and Vientiane Province have been trained about the use of the Laos Climate Services for Agriculture (LaCSA) system.

The LaCSA tool can be accessed online and provides the following information:

-          Daily collected data and forecast through the “Akad Lao” application, which is maintained by the Weather Forecast Division of the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH),

-          Automatically connected data from weather stations, and

-          Connectivity of all existing historical data from DMH Climatology and Agro-Meteorology Division.

The LaCSA also provides two innovative products which are a provincial seasonal bulletin covering the entire country updated on a monthly basis (end of every month) and a weekly bulletin (beginning of every week) with recommendations on rice productivity and pest and disease for six pilot locations (Savannakhet, Champasack, Luang Namtha, Vientiane Province, Saravan and Xieng Kuan).

The training has focused on the use of the online system and of the bulletin. The training ended on 31st of August in Vientiane Province.
