The training has been organized to involve local experts to become better informed and engaged with this innovative methodology. As the first of a program of training sessions that NAFRI will organize in the entire country, this training is in the framework of the Laos Climate Service for Agriculture (LaCSA). The training has involved the provinces of Boulikomxay, Xaysomboum, and Vientiane Province.

First, the team has been learnings on agro-meteorology and LaCSA.  Second, the local level technical staff has learnt about agro-meteorology, preparing crop recommendations, and pest and disease modelling used in agro-meteorology systems. Also, station staff has received training on collecting additional agronomical data used in the modelling in LaCSA.  Finally, the Lao National Lao National Radio shows us broadcasts via Village Loudspeakers.

The NAFRI team has been congratulated, as they have been able to define a very specialized and innovative program for training.  They have added essential information about more complex modelling, including the Dynamic Crop Calendar, and the advancement of Farmer Field Schools to focus on climate adaptation. Such developments offer a new vision about what is possible to do at the field level and support Lao farmers as they confront climate change.
