The availability of data and evidence in the Lao PDR’s agriculture and forestry sectors is increasing. At this point, the next step is mainstreaming the use of data and evidence for planning and policy-making.

A half-day final workshop bringing together key stakeholders in ongoing data for policy dialogues and other processes to present and discuss findings of the D4P project. The workshop learned of findings from the FAO supported initiative to promote evidence-based policy making through instructional capacity building on use of data for policy with the Department of Policy and Legal Affairs (DoPLA) and the Department of Agricultural Land Management (DALaM).

In particular, in collaboration and by cofinancing SAMIS, the Data for Policy project helped with the identification and training about existing datasets was undertaken, and supported the application of data to issues in the agriculture sector and to communicate these effectively via policy briefs. The D4P can be considered a success as it helped the SAMIS team to establish a policy level discussion for the use of data.
