Lao ICT Expo 2019 at Don Chan palace

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Laos exhibits its knowledge products at a booth in the exhibition of Lao ICT Expo 2019, at Don chan palace which organized by the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications (MPT) and Lao ICT Commerce Association (LICA) at Don Chan Palace Hotel & Convention during 26th-30th June 2019. This is the biggest regional and international expo for promoting Laos’ ICT industry. In addition, the event also helps to develop the digital transformation in Lao PDR and interconnect with the upcoming digital ASEAN.

The grand opening of the Lao ICT Expo 2019 officially started off with the ribbon cutting by guest of honour, Prime Minister of Lao PDR Thongloun Sisoulith and Minister of MPT, Mr. Hiem Phommachanh. Other distinguished guests on the occasion including representatives from FAO Laos, the Faculty of Computer Science and IT, software developers, government, banks, IT academia as well as local, foreign and regional, world-class ICT actors. There are around 600-1000 people from various sectors attende this event per day, which havemore than 65 exhibition booths that provided visitors with interesting information and knowledge on Lao digital transformation and other activities.

In the event, FAO also presents visitors with the online system and mobile phone app called Laos Climate Service for Agriculture (LaCSA) that provides a provincial seasonal bulletin covering the entire country and the updated information of crop, pest and disease to farmers in six pilot locations (Savannakhet, Champasack, Luang Namtha, Vientiane Province, Saravan and XiengKhuang). The LaCSA system is one of the most innovative systems in Asia, which will be officially launched soon by MONRE and FAO. In addition, knowledge products of other FAO’s projects have been exhibited as well.
