SAMIS Steering Committee discusses sustainability plan
Dr. Saynakhone Inthavong, Vice Minister of Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and Mr Beau Damen, Lead Technical Officer of the project, lead forth Steering Committee meeting. The meeting discussed about the visibility of the activity at local level and amongst the high-level policy makers through dedicated visits and study tours.
In addition, another opportunity to raise the profile of SAMIS by starting engaging with the important ongoing processes under the UNFCCC regarding agriculture. The collaboration between executing partners in government under SAMIS means that the project is uniquely placed to increase the Lao Government’s involvement in these important sector specific negotiations.
Finally, the PSC discussed about the sustainability of the SAMIS system and the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology proposed the preparation of a follow up project focused mostly on raising farmers’ awareness about the LaCSA and increasing the use of climate services in the framework of the national extension system.
