The SCALA programme was part of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) organized hybrid side event, “Our Food is on the Table: Accelerating the transition to Resilient Food Systems” in the Business Pavilion at COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh.

Side event objectives

This side event highlighted the interconnectedness of food systems and climate mitigation and adaptation action and the need to tackle both issues in a holistic and cohesive manner to tackle climate change and generate resilient, equitable systems.

It also included:

  1. A detailed case studies on regenerative agriculture and Nature-based Solutions, food loss and waste, and shifting diets and nutrition.
  2. Discussion on how food and agricultural companies can align their climate mitigation and adaptation activities to national priorities through NDCs and NAPs to concretely scale action in sourcing countries.
  3. A launch the CEO Call for action “Why food needs to be on the table at COP27 and beyond: A CEO Call for Action”, calling for collaborative effort from businesses and policymakers to deliver interlinked food systems transformation and climate mitigation. 

This session was built on the successful partnership between WBCSD and the SCALA programme.
