Context

Climate adaptation efforts involve a wide range of stakeholders, from community members (such as youth, women, and farmers) to policymakers, researchers, and businesses involved at very different levels. In National Adaptation Plans (NAPs), these stakeholders come together to address the impacts of climate change.  Strengthening inclusive multi-stakeholder engagement ensures that adaptation strategies benefit from a diverse range of perspectives and expertise.

Collaborating with stakeholders helps address their specific needs and vulnerabilities, leading to sustainable changes and climate-resilient development. Involving stakeholders in planning, implementation, and decision-making boosts ownership, legitimacy, and effectiveness, especially regarding gender dynamics and women's inclusion. This emphasizes the importance of inclusivity in driving positive outcomes.

Therefore, the FAO-UNDP SCALA programme, along with the UNCDF and NAP Global Network, co-organized a technical session at NAP Expo 2024 to underscore the significance of bolstering inclusive multi-stakeholder engagement for climate change adaptation especially for the NAP formulation, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation.

The session aimed to:

  1. Highlight the importance of inclusive multi-actor engagement for transformative adaptation across multiple governance levels.
