Advanced Specialized Course in Sustainable Development of Coastal Communities on Social Security in fisheries

The International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies of Bari (CIHEAM BARI) launched a new high-level specialized Training Programme in collaboration with the FAO, GFCM and funded by the Italian Cooperation. This fourth edition of the course aimed to strengthen stakeholders’ capacities, offering a comprehensive view of Sustainable coastal development, in particular planning and management, technical and legal aspects, taking into account environmental, social and administrative issues for development process.

From 8th of May to 14th of July, FAO is giving a serie of lecture on

  • Blue Transformation,

  • Social Security in fisheries,

  • Biosecurity,

  • Fish Value Chain analysis; Certification and eco-labeling, Traceability,

  • International trade of fisheries and aquaculture products – An overview and main trends;

  • Market access for fisheries and aquaculture products – the main importing market requirements in a nutshell, 

  • Fish processing and technology, Cold chain; Value addition (Packaging, Fish by products),

  • Food loss and waste; Food security and nutrition, Food safety and quality,

  • Blue Ports,

  • Promotion of the concept of responsible aquaculture; Responsibility in aquaculture management; Best Aquaculture Practices and emerging activities.

On 23 and 24 May, FAO SocPro4Fish Team held an advanced course in sustainable coastal community development on social security in fisheries.

In September 2022, FAO and the SocPro4Fish project collaborated with CIHEAM BARI and the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM) under the GFCM-Lex project to deliver a regional training session on small-scale fisheries (FSP) and social protection in Tricase, Italy.
