The platoneras are part of the afro-descendent identity of the Colombian Pacific. They are an example of the preservation of customs of a group who has passed their knowledge and livelihood from one generation to another, thus bequeathing the techniques and methods for the processing and sale of fish and seafood, which their relatives and fellow countrymen bring every morning to the port of Buenaventura.
