SADC Regional Management Strategy: Maize Lethal Necrosis Disease

09/05/2023

Maize Lethal Necrosis Disease is one of the five crop pests and diseases identified by SADC that can pose imminent threats to food security, livelihoods, and trade in the region. To ensure that SADC Member States are adequately equipped and prepared for controlling MLND, a collective, and concerted regional response is needed through a strategy to respond to this lethal disease.

This strategic plan presents a regional effort being coordinated by SADC with the overall goal of contributing to food and income security in southern Africa region by implementing a regionally coherent long-term MLND management system to sustain livelihoods, and secure domestic and export markets.
