Decent work in global food value chain: Evidence from Senegal

Virtual Event, 19/07/2022

The transformation of global food value chains develops rural labor markets and positively impacts rural poverty. However, debate exists about the quality and inclusiveness of the employment opportunities created. Anna Fabry of KU Leuven will present results from agro-industrial companies and small-scale farms in the horticultural sector of Senegal. The work assesses the inclusiveness of employment towards female, young and migrant workers, and compares the quality of employment between these different groups of workers. Though the sector is inclusive, the results identify a gender wage gap and a lower likelihood of decent employment for youth and migrants.
