The Global Multidimensional Poverty Index: how can it inform rural poverty reduction policies?

Virtual Event, 12/11/2019

SDG 1 is to end poverty in all its forms everywhere. This is requiring countries to complement monetary measures of  poverty with a multidimensional one. The Global MPI was launched in 2010 by OPHI and UNDP, and has been updated periodically since. It measures acute multidimensional poverty by capturing the acute deprivations that people face with respect to education, health and living standards. The indicator covers 101 developing countries and it allows for comparisons across countries and over time. In this webinar Adriana Conconi will present the main advantages of the Global MPI compared to traditional measures of monetary poverty such as the World Bank’s dollar-a-day approach. She will also discuss what the Index can tell about rural poverty and how it can be applied to guide policies and strategies at the country level.
