The relationship between food security and poverty measurement

In this meeting, Carlo Cafiero, manager of the 'Voices of the Hungry' project, will address the relationship between food security and poverty measurement, discussing conceptual and practical issues that analysts need to consider when assessing the two phenomena. The presentation will include a discussion on possible reasons for the discrepancies being noted between the Prevalence of Undernourishment (PoU) series produced by FAO and series of poverty headcounts produced by the World Bank and others. It will also touch upon on the potential use of the Food Insecurity Experience Scale (FIES) to improve on current practices in food security and in multidimensional poverty assessments worldwide.
