Inception workshop for project launch in Benin

FAO in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of Benin organized the inception workshop for the project on 11 March 2021.

The workshop aimed to launch and introduce the project in Benin, targeting the relevant stakeholders in the agriculture sector, and to establish linkages and collect valuable information that will support the implementation of the project in Benin.

The workshop brought together thirty five stakeholders and the various actors involved in the food and nutrition sector in Benin. The stakeholders were drawn from institutions / agencies such as  Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries (Department of Food and Applied Nutrition (DANA), Department of Programming and Foresight (DPP), the Directorate General of Water, Forests and Hunting (DGEFC), the Market Gardening Program of the National Institute of Agricultural Research (INRAB) and the National University of Abomey-Calavi. During the workshop, various participants delivered technical presentations on the project′s objectives and methodological approach, the government strategies related to food security and nutrition, IFAD portfolio in Benin and potential entry points for collaboration with FAO, and multiple links between agricultural water use and the production of nutritious food and interactive discussions held.
