Training of state level officials of the Department of Agriculture and Department of Horticulture, Andhra Pradesh on sustainable agrifood systems, May 11 – 13, 2022

Towards strengthening the capacity of relevant Government of Andhra Pradesh officials, FAO has developed a curriculum framework for sustainable agrifood systems. FAO further facilitated a state-level training for scientists and officers from the Department of Agriculture and Department of Horticulture on sustainable agrifood systems from May 11 to 13, 2022.


The main outputs of the workshop were:

1) 30 state level officials (10 scientists and 20 officers) trained on sustainable agrifood systems.
2) Discussion on the current challenges in agriculture and horticulture in the State.
3) Consensus on the need of transitioning from current conventional agricultural practices to sustainable agrifood systems.
4) Strategies to address the challenges in agriculture and horticulture are as follows:
a) Development of curriculum framework on sustainable agrifood systems for district-level officers training.
b) Development of crop-wise curricula (session plans) specific to six agroclimatic zones of Andhra Pradesh (North coastal zone, High altitude zone, Godavari zone, Krishna zone, Southern zone and Scarce rainfall zone).
c) Facilitating an enabling environment (policy-level and institution-level) required for transitioning to sustainable agrifood systems.
