Going camping in Guinea to raise awareness about mountains

On the occasion of International Mountain Day, the Association des Jeunes pour le Développement Agricole (Youth Association for Agricultural Development) of Guinea will take a group of people camping near a mountain. The event will raise awareness about mountain biodiversity and the important services that mountain ecosystems provide.

Virunga Wildlife Clubs raising awareness about mountain gorillas

Virunga Wildlife Clubs in Rwanda will celebrate International Mountain Day 2020 with a focus on community-based conservation. They will conduct an awareness raising campaign on biodiversity conservation, in particular on mountain gorillas and their habitat, to encourage participation in Virunga National Park's forest landscape restoration programme.

2020 Mussoorie Mountain Festival goes virtual

The Mussoorie Mountain Festival is reinventing itself as a virtual online event focusing on the Himalaya as a limitless source of knowledge, adventure, inspiration and biodiversity. A series of one-hour sessions will be produced, each consisting of a compilation of recorded talks, readings, interviews, slide-show exhibitions and short films. These will be released through the Hanifl Centre’s YouTube channel on three successive days – 7, 8, 9 December 2020.

Indian Himalayan Youth Summit to be held on 8-9 December

The Integrated Mountain Initiative is organizing the Indian Himalayan Youth Summit, to be held on 8-9 December. The Youth Summit will have youth delegates from each of India's mountain states. These delegates will be involved in the Summit deliberations in breakaway groups. The inaugural and valediction sessions will be open to all registered participants. During the valediction session, the outcomes of the discussions will be shared and presented as Voices of Indian Himalayan Youth.

Mountain Partnership Secretariat hosts web dialogue on mountain biodiversity

A panel of seven youth mountain champions from around the world addressed sustainable mountain development and biodiversity conservation during a web dialogue organized by the Mountain Partnership Secretariat on 19 October 2020. Each coming from different sectors and backgrounds, the panelists shared their unique experiences and innovative solutions to kick off action and discussion in the lead up to International Mountain Day 2020.

Mountaineering Ireland presents IMD award

Mountaineering Ireland (The National Governing Organisation for Mountaineering in Ireland) presents the 'Mountaineering Ireland-Lynam Award' each year to during International Mountain Day. For IMD 2019, they presented the prize - a silver medal - to Sir Chris Bonington, who then gave a lecture to an audience of 500 people.

The Prabhawa Environmental organization of Haputale Sri Lanka hosts 10th IMD celebration

The Prabhawa Environmental organization in Haputale, Sri Lanka, hosted their 10th consecutive International Mountain Day celebration on 11 January 2020. For the entire month following International Mountain Day (11 December 2019), the Prabhawa organization carried out many activities related to environmental protection. Canadian Mountain Network mobilizes for IMD 2019

IMD is a very special day for CMN: months went into planning a social media campaign, infographics, outreach materials and a special edition of the Canadian Mountain Podcast. CMN also sponsored IMD-themed events across the country, which included the 3rd Annual Haines Junction Mountain Festival in Jaines Junction, Yukon, and the Life @ Altitude 4.0. Training of educators in India on IMD promotes sustainability

From 5 to 10 December, RCESrinagar and the Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University (HNBGU) instructed 36 teachers from Uttarakhand on reorienting education towards environmental sustainability. The programme addressed many topics, such as using education to achieve the sustainable development goals, understanding environmental sustainability and becoming disaster resilient. Saudi Geographical Society celebrates IMD in Saudi Arabia

The Saudi Geographical Society organized an International Mountain Day 2019 event in Jabal al-Qara mountain, Al-Ahsa Oasis (a UNESCO World Heritage site). The event included a poster exhibition, lectures and hiking. The group also organized an event in Khamis Mushait, which included exhibitions, lectures, school visits and outdoor activities.
