CIS Interparliamentary Assembly adopts Model Law "On the Development and Protection of Mountain Territories"

The governing body of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly at its plenary meeting in St Petersburg on 27 November 2020 adopted a Model Law "On the Development and Protection of Mountain Territories", aimed at supporting the sustainable development of the mountain communities of its member-states. On 11 December, an event dedicated to International Mountain Day will be held to discuss the adoption of the Model Law.

Taking action for the conservation of mountain biodiversity

The Centre for Environment Education in India is conducting a virtual event to observe International Mountain Day with young environment leaders, educators and practitioners to share concerns and find ideas to take action for the conversation of mountain biodiversity. Romania's national mountain agencies to discuss mountain biodiversity

The National Mountain Area Agency od Romania, in partnership with the Mountain Economy Center of the Romanian Academy and in cooperation with the Mountain Forum of Romania and the National Agency for Mountain Rural Development ”ROMONTANA”, is organizing a scientific seminar on ”Mountain biodiversity, an invaluable heritage of mountain areas: threats, vulnerabilities and perspectives in the context of climate change, extreme weather and globalization”. The seminar will be held via Zoom on 11 December at 10.00 (UTC+2).

Webinar on parliamentarians role in climate change adaptation in mountain areas

To be held on International Mountain Day and co-hosted by the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Adaptation at Altitude programme of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, this webinar will see international mountain experts and parliamentarians present solutions and discuss potential ways forward to increase attention given to mountain areas in international processes.

The importance of working equids in mountain areas

The Equid Power Network is organizing a virtual event at 15.00 CET on 15 Decemberm to promote "The importance of Working Equids in Mountain Areas", as a contribution to the celebrations of International Mountain Day. During this event, guest speakers will present case studies from different parts of the world, highlighting the economic, ecologic and social importance and of working equids in mountain areas.

They will host a mountain essay writing competition, conduct a photography contest, share a four-part podcast series on mountains and biodiversity and host a Mountain Pooja Ceremony on 11 December.

Hiking group to climb Peña Trevinca in Spain

On Saturday, 19 December Cryosanabria will lead a hike up the Peña Trevinca ascent, from the Llagona de Peces in Sanabria to celebrate International Mountain Day. The activity includes a guide to Trevinca and lectures on the geology, glacierism, flora and fauna of the Sierra de Sanabria.
