A variety of discounted outdoor acitivities are being offered, including hiking, zip lining, mountain biking, rafting and more. Mayor Felipe Guevara invites residents to enjoy their surrounding mountains.

Promoting local good practices for tourist guides in Albania

The Albanian Network for Rural Development, with support from the Albanian Alps Alliance and Albanian Institute for Democracy and Mediation, is conduct presentations of local good practices for touristic guides on 11 and 12 December at Preza Castle, Tirana, Albania. The event will target youth and aims to strengthen new groups and their ability to be drivers of change in local development processes.

Why mountains matter: bringing indigenous knowledge and science together for IMD

The Canadian Mountain Network together with the Reconciling Ways of Knowing: Indigenous Knowledge and Science Forum will host "Why Mountains Matter: Bringing Indigenous Knowledge and Science Together for International Mountain Day", a set of dialogues on the need for a multi-evidence approach to sustaining biological and cultural diversity, in the spirit of International Mountain Day 2020. The event takes place on 11 December at 14.00–17.00 (GMT-5).

Web dialogue on the importance, challenges and scope of mountain biodiversity

The Central Himalayan Institute for Nature and Applied Research in collaboration with the Global Foundation has been running a web dialogue series on environmental and sustainability issues since July 2020. On the occasion of International Mountain Day, the tenth dialogue will focus on the importance, challenges and scope of mountain biodiversity. The virtual event will be held at 11.00 IST on 5 December. 

A week for mountains: ICIMOD celebrates IMD

Mountains are storehouses of global biodiversity. About half of the world’s biodiversity hotspots are concentrated in mountains, and four of those hotspots lie in the Hindu Kush Himalayan region. On 10-17 December 2020, ICIMOD will be organizing a week-long event – a “week for mountains” – to celebrate International Mountain Day by organizing various programmes in-house and in its country offices.
