#MountainsMatter for energy

As IMD approaches, the Swiss Federal Institute is running a research project dealing with mountains and energy. It aims to promote the sustainable use of wood as a measure to promote the energy transition in Ukraine. To give local people a voice, a Participatory Video exercise is being conducted in Boryslav, a town located at the foothills of the Ukrainian Carpathians.    

CRYNOSANABRIA raises awareness for IMD 2018

CRYNOSANABRIA will be organizing an event called "We Love Mountains" with Colegio de Ingenieros de Montes to raise awareness about mountains and the cultural heritage of mountain communities in the Sanabresa region. Activities will include a photography exhibition, a traditional masquerade workshops and educational trainings.  

FAO Costa Rica to observe IMD

The FAO representation in Costa Rica will celebrate International Mountain Day and the National Day of Protected Zones on November 21. The theme will focus on "mountains are important for water, tourism, disaster risk reduction, indigenous peoples and biodiversity". With this event, FAO Costa Rica aims to raise social awareness of the necessity for the protection of mountains in the framework of a nationwide media and social campaign. 

Oikos organizes a "Carnaval por las Montañas"

The "Carnaval por las Montañas 2018" will be taking place in Peru this year for IMD. It will include several activities that hope to promote interest in the conservation, culture and life of the Andes mountains. One of the many events will include a photo contest, “Desde La Cima” that will be displaying mountain-related photos.  

The Himalayan Forest Research Institute, Shimla celebrates IMD 2018

The Himalayan Forest Research Institute (HFRI), Shimla will celebrate International Mountain Day, 2018 on 11 December, 2018 at its campus in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, India. An eminent person, who has vast experience and contributed immensely on mountain issues in general and Himachal Himalaya will be invited to deliver key note address on the 2018 theme "#MountainsMatter".The keynote address will be followed by deliberations and discussions by the scientists, officers, researchers and the staff members of the Institute. 

Giripremi organizes several events for IMD 2018

Giripremi, a renowned mountaineering organization in India has launched several intiatives to celebrate this year's International Mountain Day 2018 (IMD). A Mountain Film Festival, an online Mountain Photography contest and an IMD Run will all take place this year. Giripremi aims to promote mountain-related intiatives and mountaineering in India.    

The Alpine Convention and the 4th edition of the "Reading Mountains Festival"

The Permanent Secretariat of the Alpine Convention proudly announces the 4th Edition of the “Reading Mountains Festival” in the framework of International Mountain Day. Under the umbrella of the Alpine Convention the wide diversity of Alpine culture and literature across and beyond the Alpine region will be celebrated. Partners of all kinds such as schools, restaurants and book clubs to interested stakeholders are invited to participate and set up a creative event that foregrounds Alpine literature.   

MiratecArts presents the #MountainsMatter photography contest

In solidarity with International Mountain Day 2018, Miratec Arts presents annually the Montanha Pico Festival that will take place January 2019. #MountainsMatter is the theme chosen for the 2018 celebration of International Mountain Day.The photo contest will reflect the theme of the international community. We ask photographers to enter their images according to the various categories they find that reflect this theme. Photos are accepted until November 1st 2018 and finalists will be announced December 11th.  

The Prabhawa Environmental organization of Haputale Sri lanka hosted International Mountain day 2017

The Prabhawa Environmental organization of Haputale Sri lanka hosted International Mountain day 2017 on December 9 2017 for the consecutive 8th year.The event was started after religious observances at Kurunji Sri Muthu Mariamman Temple. The starting event was led by Mr.Bharata Gunathilaka as the chief guest. The main event took place at the Prabhawa Mountain day viewpoint which is 5295 Feets high above the sea level.  

Central Himalayan Institute for Nature and Applied Research organizing 2018 IMD celebration

The Central Himalayan Institute for Nature and Applied Research (CHINAR) will celebrate International Mountain Day in Uttarakhand, India. The two-day event will focus on the 2018 theme "#MountainsMatter". The main activities will comprise nature walks, bird watching, camping and mountain biking along with awareness raising of mountain issues. There will also be a fair of indigenous Himalayan communities’ traditional foods, art and handicrafts.
