FAO welcomes new Sub-Regional Coordinator

The FAO Sub-Regional Office for the Caribbean welcomes its new Coordinator, Dr Renata Clarke.

Dr Clarke has worked at the FAO Headquarters in the area of food safety for the past 20 years, and since 2011, she was Head of FAO Food Safety and Quality Unit.  While at FAO-HQ, she has worked on numerous development projects across the world providing technical assistance to countries to strengthen their food control systems and guiding transparent, evidence-based decision-making on food safety.

Dr Clarke has led the production and publication of technical documents, on-line tools for strengthening national food control systems and assisted countries in strengthening their engagement in the Codex Alimentarius Commission.

In her capacity as Head of the FAO Food Safety and Quality Unit, she has also provided strategic oversight to the FAO Programme for the Provision of Food Safety Scientific Advice which undertakes the risk assessments that underpin Codex standard setting and food safety policy in many countries.

She holds a PhD in Food Science and Technology from the Technical University of Nova Scotia and a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of the West Indies.

In her current role, she will oversee the FAO Representations throughout the Caribbean including the office for Jamaica, the Bahamas and Belize located in Kingston, Jamaica.
