Jamaican students discuss Soil Biodiversity for World Soil Day

On December 2, 2020, students from across Kingston and St. Andrew, Jamaica shared discourses on Soil Biodiversity during the World Soil Day Public Speaking Competition.

Held at the Hope Gardens, the competition focused on the World Soil Day Theme, “Keep Soil Alive. Protect Soil Biodiversity”. Ms Jamila Samuda from the Holy Childhood High School took home the competition.  

The competition was organization by the Agricultural Land Management Division (ALMD) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. 

A Technical Forum was also held by the ALMD in celebration of the day with remarks delivered by Dr Crispim Moreira, FAO Representative.
