In Jamaica, the Agricultural Land Management Division of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries in collaboration with FAO recognised World Soil Day with a Technical Forum. The Forum took place in the rural community of Comma Pen in St Elizabeth as well as online and was attended by community members, farmers, members of the private sector and various agriculture stakeholders.

The Forum was delivered under the theme for World Soil Day “Halt soil salinization, boost soil productivity”. Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Hon. Audley Shaw delivered a key address and FAO Representative Dr Crispim Moreira delivered the World Soil Day message.

The Forum engaged community members and farmers in discussions on soil health and soil salinity in order to help farmers to identify salinity issues and address them to enhance crop productivity.

FAO also provided farming supplies to the farmers and community members in recognition of World Soil Day.
