世界食料デー（World Food Day、10月16日）は、世界の食料問題を考える日として国連が制定した国際デーであり、非常に活発な取り組みが世界中で見られる国際デーうちの一つです。150に及ぶ国々で50以上の言語により何百ものイベントや取組みが開催され、政府や民間セクター、市民社会、メディア、そして一般の人々が共にこの日を祝います。また、この日は国連食糧農業機関（FAO）が創立された1945年10月16日を記念する日でもあります。FAOは、飢餓に苦しむ人々を含め、だれ一人取り残すことなく、全ての人が健康的な食事がとれるよう、世界的な認識と行動を促します。
2022年の世界食料デーは、パンデミック、紛争、気候変動、価格上昇そして国際的な緊張の高まりなどの様々な国際的課題に直面する中で開催されます。これらの課題は、世界の食料安全保障を脅かしています。本年の世界食料デーキャンペーンのテーマは「誰一人取り残さない。より良い生産、より良い栄養、より良い環境、より良い生活」です。すべての人のためのよりよい持続可能な未来を創造するために、世界中の人々が手を取り合って行動する必要があります。
日本で行われる世界食料デー2022イベントは、世界及び日本の農業・食料システムに焦点を当てます。国際化が進んだ私たちの世界は、経済、文化、そして人々が益々相互に繋がってきています。自分が誰であるか、またどこに住んでいるかにより脆弱な立場に置かれている人もいますが、現実には、私たち皆が脆弱な状況に置かれているのです。もし誰か一人が取り残されたら、それはこの「繋がり」の一つが断たれることを意味します。そしてその影響は、取り残されたその一人の人生だけではなく、私たちにも及ぶのです。
世界的な危機を前に、今まで以上に世界規模での解決策が必要です。より良い生産、より良い栄養、より良い環境、そしてより良い生活を目指すことで、長期的な視点に立った発展、包摂的な経済成長、そしてレジリエンスを踏まえた持続可能で包括的な解決策を実行することにより、農業・食料システムを変革することができます。
本イベントはFAO駐日連絡事務所が主催し、日本の外務省・農林水産省の後援、FAO同様ローマに本部を置く国連機関である国連世界食糧計画（WFP）・国際農業開発基金（IFAD）の協力のもと、催されます。第一部では、国連機関がそれぞれの立場から見た世界の食料安全保障及び農業・食料システムの現状について発表を行います。第二部のパネルディスカッションでは国谷裕子日本担当FAO親善大使がモデレーターを務め、農業・食料システムに携わる日本の多様なパートナーの視点を通じて日本の食料安全保障及び持続可能な農業・食料システムに関する議論を展開いたします。閉会の挨拶では、同じく中村勝宏日本担当FAO親善大使より料理人の立場からご挨拶いただきます。

World Food Day Japan Event 2022 ‘Leave no one behind. Better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life’
Collective action across 150 countries worldwide is what makes World Food Day one of the most celebrated days of the UN calendar. Hundreds of events and outreach activities bring together governments, businesses, CSOs, the media, the public, even youth, in over 50 languages. They promote worldwide awareness and action for those who suffer from hunger and for the need to ensure healthy diets for all, leaving no one behind. The World Food Day also commemorates the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) on 16 October 1945. It promotes worldwide awareness and action for those who suffer from hunger and for the need to ensure healthy diets for all, leaving no one behind.
#WorldFoodDay 2022 is being marked in a year with multiple global challenges including the ongoing pandemic, conflict, climate change, rising prices and international tensions. All of this is affecting global food security. This year’s theme is to ‘Leave no one behind. Better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life’. It’s time to work together and create a better, more sustainable future for all.
This year’s World Food Day event in Japan focuses on the global and domestic agrifood systems. Our globalized world is one where our economies, cultures, and populations are becoming increasingly interconnected. Some of us are vulnerable because of who we are or where we live, but the reality is that we are all fragile. When someone is left behind, a chain is broken. This impacts not only the life of that person, but also ours.
In the face of global crises, global solutions are needed more than ever. By aiming for better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life, we can transform agrifood systems and build forward better by implementing sustainable and holistic solutions that consider development in the long term, inclusive economic growth, and greater resilience.
This World Food Day Japan event is organized by FAO Liaison Office in Japan, with the patronage from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MOFA) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan (MAFF) and the cooperation with UN agencies based in Rome, World Food Program (WFP) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). In the first part of the event, the UN agencies will illustrate the state of the global food security and agrifood systems. In the second part of the event, Ms. Hiroko Kuniya, FAO National Goodwill Ambassador for Japan, will moderate a Panel Discussion, where several partners related to the agrifood systems will share their views on Japan’s food security and sustainable agrifood systems. Mr. Katsuhiro Nakamura, chef and also the FAO National Goodwill Ambassador for Japan, will deliver the closing remarks.
