世界食料デー記念シンポジウム　「食料問題を考える、『食品ロス』を知ろう！」/ World Food Day Symposium

外務省と国連食糧農業機関（FAO) 駐日連絡事務所は、10月18日（金曜日）国連大学1Fアネックスホールにおいて、公開シンポジウム「食料問題を考える，『食品ロス』を知ろう！」を開催いたします。

毎年10月16日は、世界の食料問題を考える日として国連が制定した「世界食料デー」です。今、世界では全ての人が食べられるだけの食料はあると言われていますが、実にその9人に1人が飢餓に苦しんでいます。その反面、毎年、生産された食品の3分の1にあたる13億トンが廃棄されるという、食品ロスの問題が起きています。

こうした背景から、日本では、10月1日から「食品ロス削減推進法」が施行され，10月は「食品ロス削減月間」に定められました。行政、企業、そして消費者が食品ロス削減を実践する段階になっています。

今回のシンポジウムでは、外務省と国連食糧農業機関（FAO）駐日連絡事務所の共催により、食品ロスの問題に深く精通する専門家、取組を行っている企業の方などをお招きし、プレゼンテーション、パネルディスカッションを通じ、「食品ロス」についてご理解いただく機会を提供いたします。

World Food Day Symposium 2019 “Creating a sustainable future –What can we do to reduce Food Loss and Waste?”

On October 18, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Liaison Office in Japan will co-organize World Food Day Symposium 2019 “Creating a sustainable future –What can we do to reduce Food Loss and Waste?” (Program in English here: PDF)

October 16 is the ‘World Food Day,’ established by the UN as a day to reflect on global food issues, and many events are held over the world with a view to achieving the SDGs Goal 2, ‘Zero Hunger’ by 2030. In Japan, the Food Loss Reduction Promotion Act has entered into force on October 1 this year. The food loss and waste reduction is one of the key issues on which Japan is making its efforts. Against a background of momentum in the international community and in Japan, this symposium expects participation of about 100 people, including business people, government officials, academics and specialists from overseas. At the beginning, Mr. Norihiro Nakayama, Parliamentary Vice-Ministers for Foreign Affairs will make an opening remark.

In this Symposium, Rosa Rolle, Senior Enterprise Development Officer in the Nutrition and Food Systems Division of FAO and other experts from public and private sectors will speak and promote public understanding on the FLW issue through introducing advanced efforts by Japanese companies and local governments. Further, this Symposium is aiming to explore the possibility of international contributions toward the achievement of SDGs.
