The Inception Workshop to officially launch the “Knowat - Knowing water better” project in Rwanda was organized by FAO in Kigali on 4 September 2019. The workshop gathered representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, the civil society, financial institutions, universities and research institutes and from the private sector.

The “Knowat” project aims at strengthening water governance processes in Sri Lanka, Senegal and Rwanda. For more information on the project, visit the project page.

Reversing land degradation and its outcomes while accelerating positive achievements for people and for ecosystems with a view to deliver on Sustainable Development Goals is the core agenda of the fourteenth session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (COP14). COP14 will take place on 2-13 September 2019 at the India Mart and Expo, in the Greater Noida area of New Delhi, India.

The triennial World Irrigation Forum (WIF) aims to bring together all the stakeholders involved in irrigation of multi-disciplines and all scales, including policy makers, experts, research institutions, non-governmental organizations and farmers. It provides a platform for the world irrigation community and interested development professionals to find solutions to problems plaguing irrigated agriculture, in times of depleting freshwater resources as a result of environmental change.

The FAO Land and Water division will be present in several thought-provoking sessions and side events during the first three days of the Forum, before committing its efforts to the UNCCD COP14 later in the week.

The World Water Week (WWW), organized by SIWI, is the annual forum for the globe’s water issues. This year the week will address the theme “Water for society - Including all”, to align with the theme of the World Water Day “Leaving no one behind”, broadened to the wider perspective of inclusiveness.

This years World Water Week programme consists of more than 260 sessions convened by over 400 organizations. As ever, FAO is co-organising and will be involved in key sessions throughout the week and will have a booth in the UN Pavilion.
