Horticulture Cultivars Performance Database (Hortivar)

Hortivar is FAO´s database on the performances and standard descriptions of horticultural cultivars over the world. Information can be retrieved regarding six groups of crops: fruits, vegetables, root and tuber crops, herbs and condiments, ornamentals and mushrooms. Hortivar contains a standard methodology for data collection and record keeping on the performances of horticulture cultivars, a search engine for easy retrieval and comparison of information, a standard template for educational purposes, a gateway to horticulture knowledge/statistics on production data, standard cultivar descriptions, seed sources, experts on specific crops or subjects, photos of cultivars, nutrient composition data and climate data per location. Hortivar contains nearly 92,000 entries from 76 partner institutions in 119 countries, mostly on vegetables and fruits. The information content and updating of Hortivar relies on crowdsourcing from individuals and institutional partners. Detail of description and language of documentation may vary depending on the contributors.
