First meeting of the Global Soil Laboratory Network (GLOSOLAN) – toward establishment and implementation

From 01/11/2017 To 02/11/2017
Location: Rome, Italy

To enable the sustainable management and protection of soil resources, it is crucial that soil data and information is gathered in a harmonized way in order to enable sharing and combining experiences. Harmonization of soil analytical methods, measurements and indicators is a main focus of Pillar 5 of the Global Soil Partnership (GSP). One of the key priorities focuses on Laboratory Analysis of Soil and aims to achieve that “appropriate methods and procedures used for analyzing the properties of soils are well defined and documented such that results from different analysis procedures can be translated and combined where necessary to provide globally consistent data.”

The first meeting of the GLOSOLAN is scheduled for the 1-2 November 2017 at FAO Headquarters in Rome. During this meeting, experiences with harmonization, monitoring programmes and among existing networks shall be shared and discussed. This will set the scene and provide a basis for establishing Terms of Reference and agreeing upon a workplan of the network.
