The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Laos attends the joint ceremony of the National Tree Planting Day and World Environmental Day. The event has taken place on 1^st June 2019, at the botanical garden (Houy Yang-Dong Mak Khai).

The event has officially opened by guest of honour Dr. Phankham Viphavanh, Vice President of Lao PDR , and other distinguished guests on the occasion including Mr. Sommad Pholsena, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE), Mr. Thongpath Vongmany, Vice Minister for Agriculture and Forestry (MAF), Mr Sousath Xayakoummane, Director General of the Department of Forestry (DOF),  Mr Nasar Hayat, FAO Representative to Lao PDR, other participant from different government authorities, private sectors and public primary schools.  

Approximately 3,000 trees have been planted to conserve nature forestry, which correspond to the national forest strategy includes a commitment of Lao Government to increase forest cover as well as promotion of environmental sustainability.
