2024 Law Lecture: Right to Foods: Legal Considerations for a Better Life and a Better Future

We are pleased to invite you to our upcoming 2024 FAO Law Lecture that will take place on 23 October 2024 at 15:30 (CET).

This year, we are privileged to host Hon. Hassan Bubacar Jallow, an eminent jurist who will speak on the theme: “Ensuring Food Security through Legal Frameworks and International Cooperation: Protecting Food Systems and Realising the Right to Foods." 

Hon. Hassan Bubacar Jallow is the Chief Justice of The Gambia and a distinguished legal scholar with extensive experience in international law. He has served successively in The Gambia as Registrar General, Solicitor General, Attorney General and Minister of Justice, and as a Justice of the Supreme Court of The Gambia. He has also held eminent roles in the international domain. He is a former Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, having served as the Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) and the UN Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals (MICT). Hon. Jallow has also held judicial positions with the UN Special Court for Sierra Leone, the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, and the Commonwealth Arbitral Tribunal. He has published several influential works on law, governance, and international justice.

As part of the celebrations for the 2024 #WorldFoodDay — with the theme “Right to Foods for a Better Life and a Better Future” — this lecture will explore the vital role of international and national legal frameworks and international cooperation in securing access to diverse nutritious foods; a goal for all Nations and their peoples.
