23/07/2024

19 July 2024, Caracas, Venezuela. The Development Law Service of the FAO Legal Office (LEGN) participated on 9 July in the webinarWhat is Contract Farming and how to implement it in Venezuela?” organized by FAO in collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (ONUDI).

During the online event, Manuela Cuvi, LEGN Legal Officer based in the Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean, delivered a presentation on the basic aspects of Contract Farming. Her presentation was based on the Legal Guide on Contract Farming, jointly published by FAO, the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). In addition, good practice experiences in Latin America were presented, explaining the benefits and challenges these contracts offer.

The objective of the event, directed mainly at associations of agricultural producers, was to promote contract farming in Venezuela by increasing the knowledge of agrifood value chains actors on this topic.

FAO has a Contract Farming Resource Center and is at the disposal of its Member States to provide technical assistance in this area. LEGN can contribute from its experience in supporting the development or modification of legislation, as well as in capacity building.
