Monrovia, Liberia - December 14, 2020 – The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) under the EU FLEGT programme signed a letter of agreement with the National Benefit Sharing Trust Board (NBSTB) to build their capacities to effectively carry out project management and monitoring oversight functions. This agreement will contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals by alleviating poverty (SDG 1), ensuring food security (SDG 2), mitigating climate change (SDG 13) and managing forests sustainably (SDG 15) by reducing and eventually eliminating illegal logging.

The designated officer responsible for the management of this agreement Ms. Daphne Hewitt, Forestry Officer, signed the agreement on behalf of FAO. The NBSTB will provide certain services in support of the project “Strengthening the Capacity of the National Benefit Sharing Trust Board to effectively monitor and evaluate projects awarded to Affected Communities”. This agreement shows FAO’s continued effort in protecting Liberia’s forests and community.
