DescriptionAnnounced that it would give priority to research on flood, drought, salinity and temperature resistant varieties, in addition to stepping up interventions to encourage crop diversification, organic pest management and farm mechanization. The announcements form part of the Governments 2019/20 budgetary allocations, which also foresee maintaining local prices of chemical fertilizers unchanged during the 2019/20 (July-June) fiscal year, the introduction of a pilot crop insurance scheme against natural disasters, value added tax (VAT) exemptions on agricultural machinery, and the provision of subsidies to producers to cover the costs of farm machinery.
