DescriptionAnnounced that it would provide 800 million people with a monthly ration of 5 kg of rice or wheat and 1 kg of pulses between April and June 2020. The supplies would be provided free of cost and come on top of existing assistance under the public distribution system. A total of 12.1 million tonnes of wheat and rice would be allocated for the purpose, of which 11.1 million tonnes would consist of rice. The initiative seeks to help vulnerable consumers to cope with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
