DescriptionAnnounced that it would destine MYR 400 million (USD 85 million) to provide an MYR 950 (USD 201) outlay for a tonne of imported white rice in Sabah and Sarawak from 5 October 2023. The measure aims to have 10 kg of imported rice sold at MYR 31 (USD 0.7 per kg) at the retail level in the two states. The Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority would also take steps to increase distribution of local white rice in rural areas, while government rice purchases would be confined to imported supplies.
