DescriptionDecided to end the Rice Subsidy Programme for Super Tempatan 15 per cent broken rice (ST15) in 2016, amid concerns that the scheme was not reaching its intended low-income population target. The programme, introduced in September 2008, provided processors with incentives to produce 15% broken rice and to ensure its supply at controlled prices of MYR 1.65-1.80 (USD 0.39-0.42) per kilo. Alternative means to ensure that low-income groups access supplies at affordable prices are to be put in place.
