NotesFrance’s Environment Ministry is considering to introduce measures restricting the use of palm oil in biofuels, based on the alleged prevalence of unsustainable production methods in countries of origin. Details of possible domestic measures have not been provided. Past proposals to introduce – also on environmental grounds – a surtax on crude palm oil imports destined for food use failed to obtain parliamentary approval (see MPPU Apr.’16).
